Behind the Scenes: The First Book Demo – A Huge Milestone!
The moment of truth finally arrived, and I couldn’t be more thrilled to share this with you all:
A few weeks ago, I received the final demo video from our printers, and I wanted to give you an update on where we stand with our first Arabic kids’ book project. There was a lot of anticipation leading up to this moment, and honestly, I was a bundle of nerves!
When you're creating a book that’s so close to your heart—especially one with a unique structure like ours—it’s impossible not to worry about every little detail. For us, the biggest concerns page order, binding, and page thickness.
Page Order
It was important to us that our Arabic books for kids are bound correctly: on the opposite side compared to most Western books. This can make things tricky when it comes to printing, as many printers are more familiar with left-to-right book layouts. We had discussed this extensively with the team, but I still couldn’t shake off the nervous feeling that the pages might end up in reverse order. It’s a small detail that could’ve turned into a big issue, so I breathed a huge sigh of relief when I saw the first page-turn on the video.
Binding Concerns
The other concern was the binding crease. Even if the pages were in the correct there was a chance the crease could end up on the front cover because of the "backwards" layout, messing up the clean & professional look we were hoping for.
Page Thickness
Another thing I was unsure about was the thickness of the pages. Since this is our first time printing a children’s book, I had a hard time picturing how thick the pages would be in person. Now that I’ve seen the demo, I can see that the thickness is just right, offering durability while still being easy for little hands to flip through. It’s exactly what I hoped for.
To no surprise, the printers did an absolutely fantastic job! There were no mistakes with page order or alignment, and the binding looks perfect. The crease is where it should be, and the pages all flow beautifully. It’s a relief to see everything come together just as we envisioned it.
I can’t even begin to express how excited I am to finally see these books come to life. These beautiful demo copies are on their way to us, and soon enough, we’ll be able to start shipping them out to everyone who pre-ordered. The countdown to our official launch has officially begun, and I can’t wait to see these Arabic baby books in the hands of families who are eager to share the Levantine dialect with their children.
